The Nordic Welfare Centre arranges the conference on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Nordic Welfare Forum is held every two years to monitor developments and challenges relating to welfare in the Nordic countries.
The Nordic Welfare Forum 2025 takes place in Helsinki, Finland on 10 September. The aim is to discuss how to maintain and increase trust in the Nordic welfare model, despite the challenges from a changing world.

Mats Stjernberg
Senior Researcher at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) who formerly worked at the Nordregio research institute in Stockholm.
Minna Lundgren
Holds a bachelor’s degree in social work, and a PhD in sociology. She has many years of both research and practice in social work. Her research focuses on issues of risk, communication, and migration.
Olli Kangas
Professor Emeritus. Former Director of the Equal Society research programme at the Academy of Finland.
Oskar Rönnberg
Doctoral researcher in urban geography at the University of Helsinki. His research focuses on the role of schools and the development of neighbourhoods in the segregated welfare state.
Per Oleskog Tryggvason
PhD, Director of Public Opinion at Indikator Opinion. Focus on Swedish politics, public opinion, political polarisation, and media use.
Sami Husa
Communications Associate at UNU-WIDER and focal point for the Institute’s communications on conflict, peace, and trust.
Sarah Kups
Senior economist in the OECD’s Public Governance Directorate, where she leads the work on trust in public institutions. Sarah has worked on a variety of areas including migration and social policy. She holds a PhD in Policy Analysis.
Venla Bernelius
Senior specialist at the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and a Docent (Adjunct Professor) of Urban Geography at the University of Helsinki.
A Master of the Modern Kantele and a Storyteller
Maija Kauhanen is an exceptional musician who uniquely combines virtuosic kantele playing, powerful singing, and meaningful storytelling. She is a one-woman orchestra: her quick fingers dance across the kantele strings while rhythms pulse from the drums, and her clear voice shapes emotions as vast as life itself.
Kauhanen’s artistic vision and technical brilliance have made her an internationally acclaimed performer who has captivated audiences around the world. She has won numerous awards, including Kritiikin Kannukset, the Emma Award, and the prestigious Nordic Council Music Prize. Her music has gained wide recognition in the world music scene.
Latvian radio and TV journalist and experienced moderator
Sandra Kropa has hosted a popular science and environment broadcast on Latvian Radio for 20 years. She has been involved in production of various TV broadcasts and has as a moderator been taking part in several national and international conferences. Her main interests in communication are social sciences and environmental protection.
She obtained a bachelor's degree in Communication Science and a master's degree in Environmental Science at the University of Latvia.
Journalist and head of communications with a focus on sustainability
Heidi Orava has a background in journalism and communications, with a focus on sustainability communication and reporting.
In the context of Nordic co-operation, she has held strategic communication roles at both the Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Culture Point, where she currently works as Head of Communications and Sustainability Strategist.
