Meet our Speakers

Lieven Scheire

Broadcaster, comedian and moderator of the conference day.

Lieven Scheire is a Belgian stand-up comedian, physicist and science communicator who focuses on making science fun and accessible for a broad audience. He started his career as a stand-up comedian in 2001 and won the Lunatic Stand-up Comedy award. He has collaborated on numerous TV shows for both the national broadcaster, VRT, and commercial TV channels in Flanders, Belgium. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics and speaks Icelandic. Fun fact: In March 2015, a new kind of stick insect was discovered and named after Lieven Scheire. It is called “Lobofemora scheirei” and is primarily found in Vietnam.

Robert "Fly" Vliegen

Team leader Special Forces, Belgian Army

Robert “Fly” Vliegen began his career in the Belgian Special Forces in 1991. Throughout his service, he had the honour and privilege of working with exceptional men and women. His career not only provided him with insight into the good and bad aspects of human behaviour but also reinforced his belief that perseverance can overcome any problem. Robert gained national recognition in Belgium as an instructor on a reality TV show, where civilians underwent a crash course in the Special Forces. He is known as a strict yet empathetic leader. Robert utilizes his leadership insights to deliver motivational speeches for corporate teams. “You don't have to be born a natural, charismatic leader to be a good manager. It is a skill that you can learn by using certain principles and techniques.”

Ann Caluwaerts

Board member Bpost & Imec, keynote speaker, strategic business leader (ex-Telenet)

Ann has a Master’s Degree of KU Leuven in Electronic Engineering, attended INSEAD, London Business School, Columbia Business School and Vlerick Business School (various post-graduates in Strategy & Marketing, Advanced Finance for Executives, Negotiation Strategies, Board Effectiveness & Director Effectiveness).

She has held various international leadership positions over the last 30 years at BT and Telenet. She was part of the Telenet executive team from 2011-2025 in various roles, amongst others leading HR, Transformation, Legal & Regulatory, Corporate Affairs and New Business, and is widely recognised as a strong purpose driven leader.

Ann is board member of the Bpost group (the Belgian postal service) and Imec (an international research & development organization, active in the fields of nanoelectronics and digital technologies with headquarters in Belgium) and holds several advisory roles. She is also keynote speaker on leadership and technology and is guest lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Vlerick Business School.

Owner of Exceptional EA.

Shelagh Donnelly walked your walk for almost three decades, and assistants around the globe have been reading her Exceptional EA website since 2013. Authentic, expert and inspiring, Shelagh earned recognition for her leadership and influence on organisational culture long before she began speaking and training internationally in 2017.

In both the corporate world and the public sector, she led teams, committees and multiple projects, and had the benefit of her own assistants. She co-launched two longstanding internal networks. Shelagh was part of an American governance professional association’s leadership group and, at home in Canada, chaired a national board of directors.

The Council Meeting is a business meeting for the IMA council members consisting of the Executive Committee, National Chairs, National Finance Officers, and National MarCom Officers. In addition approved Observers are allowed to attend the Council Meeting as well. Approval of attendance is given by the respective National Committees.

Join us at Tiendschuur where we not only have our conference dinner but also celebrate the 40th anniversary of IMA Belgium - the ruby anniversary, so wear something ruby coloured to join the celebration.

The Tiendschuur was once the most prosperous women's abbeys in Belgium. Now, we will enjoy fine Belgian cuisine here in a pleasant atmosphere. The event will conclude with an evening of dancing.

Participants will not only eat but learn a lot about Belgian culture, the site, and our birthday - and of course there will be dancing! no international IMA event without that.

Buses depart at 19.15 from the hotel to Tiendschuur. First buses returning to the Radisson Blu Hotel will depart at 23.00.

Dress code: Add a ruby accessory or wear something "ruby."

Fee: 89 Euro - and for that you get a bubbly reception with finger food, some delicious small food nibbles, and a lovely Belgian specialities dinner with dessert. Drinks and bus transfer are included.

Annual General Meeting - only registered members

We welcome all IMA members to the hybrid Annual General Meeting on 18 October, 09.30-12.30 CEST at the conference venue in the Jenever Meeting room. There will be a desk outside the meeting room opening before the AGM. Please check your confirmation to make sure that you have registered in advance. We note your attendance from a list, so please arrive in good time not to delay the AGM start.

The AGM is for IMA members only and you can also attend online.

Information about the AGM and a separate sign-up will be sent out individually to IMA members only.

A Zoom link to attend online will be distributed a few days in advance.

The AGM is free for members. A coffee break is included.

Fashion Museum Hasselt – A Journey Through Style

The Fashion Museum Hasselt takes you on a fascinating journey through the evolution of fashion, from historical garments to modern couture. Jenever Festival – Discover the Spirit of Hasselt

Timing: 18-19 October 2025

Location: Hasselt city center

If you want to experience the true spirit of Hasselt - both figuratively and literally- then you cannot miss the Jenever Festival!

This annual event transforms the city center into a lively celebration of Belgium’s most famous grain-based spirit, jenever. Taking place on the same weekend as our conference, the festival is the perfect opportunity to taste traditional and innovative jenever flavors and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Jenever Museum

The Jenever Museum offers a deep dive into this traditional drink’s history, production, and cultural significance. Visit the interactive exhibits, witness the distillation process, and sample different flavors of this iconic spirit.

Cycling Through Water – A Unique Experience in Nature

Praised by Time Magazine as one of the most beautiful places in the world and known as one of the most famous cycling experiences in the world, Cycling Through Water is a spectacular route that takes you straight through a lake in the beautiful Bokrijk nature reserve. As you pedal along the submerged pathway, the water rises on both sides, creating an almost surreal effect. Whether you're a cycling enthusiast or just looking for a unique way to connect with nature, this experience is highly recommended. Bike rentals are available in Hasselt or at Bokrijk.

Bikes can be rented through Visit Hasselt (day fee of 30 Euro).

In order to plan a live streamed event, we need to receive your registration early so that we can make arrangements and manage costs. Please note that there will be a minimum of 20 attendees in order to provide good quality online streaming and recording. If we do not reach the minimum number of online viewers, the livestream will be cancelled and you will receive a refund.

The registration will close on 1 October 2025.

Terms and conditions

All invoices must be paid within 14 days of issue. Please note that for the Early Bird rate all payments must be received by 15.07. 2025 at the latest. If you fail to pay your early bird registration fee by 15.07.2025, you will be charged the regular registration fee. Only fully registered and paid delegates will be admitted to the sessions.

Registration fees do not include accommodation. Airfare/travel costs are in addition to the training day and event registration fees and is arranged by the participants themselves. Registration is not confirmed until payment has been received.

Please note that all invoices must be paid by 26.09.2025. If we don't receive the payment by this date your registration will be cancelled.


Payments can be executed as follows:

1) With credit card payment via Stripe only during your online registration. Any changes to your registration after the initial online registration must be paid by bank transfer.

Payment provider transaction fees are included in the price. Any further charges of the delegate's credit card will be the responsibility of the delegate.

Cancellations/amendments received in writing by 15.09.2025 will receive a full refund less a 25 Euro administration fee per person. Cancellations/amendments received after 15.09.2025 will not be refunded, but replacements are welcome without penalty.
